Ride Reunion + Tour Dates

Hello Shoegaze People.
After a longer break from writing, this recent event just brought me back on track:

Ride confirm reunion and tour dates for 2015!
Well, honestly. This is not much of a sursprise after the new album of My Bloody Valentine in 2013 and the reunion of Slowdive this year. It became kind of trendy for a Shoegaze band to reunite these days. However, it's a good thing and I'm happy because I'm going to Primavera next year and this will be so awesome to see Ride live!

What I think is important to say:

Shoegaze is getting bigger and bigger today. And we all are part of the success!
That bands like MBV and Co are coming back is showing that Shoegaze Music is becoming more of a 'hip' thing. And that's great! There are so many incredible talented Bands out there working their asses off for the scene. And all the Blogs giving these bands a platform to promote their music are as important. I'm proud and happy to be part of this thing and want to encourage everybody to keep on their work. This is big!

Ride Tour-Dates:

- -
05-22 Glasgow, Scotland - Barrowland Ballroom
05-23 Manchester, England - Albert Hall
05-24 London, England - Roundhouse
05-26 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Paradiso
05-27 Paris, France - Olympia
05-29 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Sound Festival
06-02 Toronto, Ontario - DanForth Music Hall
06-04 New York, NY - Terminal 5
06-07 London, England - Field Day

Shoegaze around the world: Germany

Hey Lovers,

After the huge success of the last Shoegaze around the word special about France I decided to do another one. Because of the current situation which means that several german bands just released new material I picked the country I live in myself. I hope you enjoy and please comment below which special you want to read next.

So let's begin with my own band most of you guys already heared of. It's called JAGUWAR and we also just released our long-worked-on EP with the name 'I' via Pinmusik. After we changed our bandname in 2012 we had a pretty hard time. As more we are excited to be able to present you the 4 tracks. There's an other release coming this year so you can stay excited!

An other band from Berlin released their new album just last week. THE HISTORY OF COLOUR TV released 'When Shapes Of Split Blood Spelt Love' via Saint Marie Records and it's just awesome. This band surprised me many times. They are minimalistic but at the same time they create a wall of sound you can't resist. You can get all their records on vinyl (when not sold out).

So let's stay in Berlin for a second. I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM named themselves after a Sci-Fi Story from 1967 and play a very cool mix of post punk and shoegaze. Their sound is great and I love them even more because they released their 's/t EP' on tape! I hope their is more coming soon.

Berlin might not be a beautiful city from the outside, however it's very colourfull on the inside. Some other good friends located there are THIS LOVE IS DEADLY. It became a little bit quiet around them this year. But I guess they'll come back with a big bang. So watch out for them. I fell in love with their gorgeous debut album in 2012. Modern Shoegaze at it's best!

Next we take a ride to Leipzig to check out a band called DIN MARTIN. In a way they are more of a post-rock band. They have a groovy rhythm crew and play with dynamic song structure. However sometimes their sound is more shoegaze influenced. That's why I included them here. 'Cause most of the time I don't give a shit about genre borders! We are all one big family!

Next we take a ride to Baden-Württemberg to meet up with the kings and queens of Wall Of Sound. THE LOST RIVERS are loud and they are Rock'n'Roll. No compromises and always on the run they already played shows with Ceremony and The Telescopes. If you are a fan of A Place To Bury Strangers and Black Rebel Motorpsycho Club you will love the Lost Rivers!

Let's go to Hamburg and check out SEASURFER. A pretty new Band playing Dream Pop. They just released their debut album via Saint Marie Records and smashed everyone in the scene! Amazing. Straight. I immidiately fell in in love with their bright and wide sound.

Then there's COME BACK HARRIET from Munich. They name their style of music 'Shoepop' and I pretty like the description. Nice lovely pop-songs with some cute little shoegaze guitars. You can hear the strong influence of Indie Rock bands like Dinosaur Jr or Superdrag. It's great. It also became very quiet around them and I hope they come back (as their name tells us) soon!

Before returning home we go to Dortmund and listen to SHORELINE IS. They released an album in 2012 called 'Deal Kindly' and it contains everything I love. It's dreamy, it's punk rock and it hase some great hooklines. I hope there's another release coming this year 'cause I'm sure they have the right potntial!

Back in Dresden I don't want to keep 2 very amazing bands from you. Many of you might know MALORY. They released their debut album in 2000. Their last release came out in 2010 and it's quiet around them ever since. I hope that this dream pop sensation won't stop doing their thing.

Last but not least: LUC STARGAZER. With their alternative wave sound they already amazed people several times on Wave Gotik Treffen. You definitely hear Robert Smith knocking on the back door. Check them out!

I hope you got an impression about some great Shoegaze Bands from Germany. If you like them, show them your love. There's a new Shoegaze around the world coming so don't forget to tell me which country should be up next!

Concert Review: The Foreign Resort at Wave Gotik Treffen 2014 (Altes Landratsamt)

I had the most awesome (but at the same time exhausting weekend) for a long time. I had much fun playing the first show with Jaguwar this year on friday night in our hometown Dresden. We have a new Drummer and he did a really good job. On saturday I hit the road and went to Hannover where my Roller Derby Team won against the lovely girls from Demolition Derby Dolls. I'm so proud of them, I can't describe it with words.
But the most exciting part was travelling to Leipzig for Wave Gotik Treffen (WGT) with my boyfriend Lemmy. The guys of The Foreign Resort were inviting me kindly last week to come over and check out their show at Altes Landratsamt on monday. I was very happy that they thought of me just living like one hour from Leipzig. So we took the bus and enjoyed a nice (but insanely hot day in Leipzig).

The Foreign Resort just released their album 'New Frontiers' this year in february including the Single 'Alone'. I fell in love with the dark wave sound right away. That's why they became Band Of The Week on Shoegaze Love after a friend told me about this band sounding like a combination of The Cure in their times of 'Disintegration' and Joy Division with the difference that The Foreign Resort can actually play their instruments (I don't want to offend Joy Division Fans on this point I'm just not that excited about them as most people).

The more I was excited about the invitation. So after entering the dignifying venue The Foreign Resort already started their set. My first impression was that the sound is very clean but to little guitar. The drums and bass were kicking but the guitar was just anywhere but not where I wished it to be - right into my face. However the guys really got me with their very authentical presence on stage and some very good vocals by guitarist and singer Mikkel.
The samples harmonized very good with the whole cold wave sound and instantely give you this Depeche Mode feeling with the very tight and straight drumming.
Third song of the set was the Single 'Alone' and I have to admit I was listening to the song all night and day since it came out. The perfect match of atmosphere, sound, vocals and lyrics. And they brought it on stage the same way. Just amazing. Unfortunately the sound guy didn't seem to notice that maybe some of the people in the audience are not deaf and want to actually here this lovely guitar line he's playing the whole song! Whatever.

We should start a gang.
After the show I had a little chat with the guys and they are as amazing as their music.
So if you did not already heared about The Foreign Resort you should definetely check them out and buy all their merch and stuff.

By the way: The last band of the evening had some car troubles and didn't make it to the venue so The Foreign Resort played a second set and this time we put ourselves directly in front of the stage right where the guitaramp was so we had an amazing ass-kicking sound. Right into the face!

I ♥ Shoegaze || May I

Hey Citizens of Shoegaze Wonderland.
It's time again to bring you some sweet noise from all over the world.
Feel free to close your eyes, dance or start a riot while listening to all this lovely tunes I found on the internet or that were kindly brought to me by amazing people.

First I want to start with Pastel Blue
. 'A band of the past' how declared on their bandcamp page. You'll find some very sweet demo takes of this japanese dream pop lovers there. You definitely hear the strong influence of slowdive on all of them. Japan really have some frekin' cool shoegaze to give.
Next Band I wanna tell you about are Roku Music from Brisbane / Australia. Their new track Collider comes with some dreamy vocals over nice shoegaze guitars and minimalistic drums. Really great.
Then there are Winkie from Brooklyn, New York. This experimental duo got me with their innovative destroyed sounds. When you are in love with crazy synthie sounds and shoegaze influenced songs you will immediately fall for this awesome band.

I already told you about Crisis Arm. Their 'new' album 'fetch' from december last year is for 'name your price' on bandcamp and of course worth all your money you are willing to give for 8 songs of awesomeness. I'm totally sure we would become really good friends as they say they love cats, tapes and vinyl. :)
In June Crisis Arm are playing 3 shows in California. Check them out on the bands fb-page I linked on their name.
Not to forget: DEAD with their new 4-piece-EP. Like always it's a mixture of expermiental cold-wave sounds and noise-attacks. Perfect.

At the end Bleak Boys from Mexico bring you some Indie-Rock influenced Noise Pop. Love Love Love. Check them out!

I hope you enjoy.

I ♥ Shoegaze || April I

Lovely Shoegaze People Of The World,

it's time again to support some really great Shoegaze and Noise Pop bands. I'm very happy about every submission you send me and I'm very happy to have friends out there who share all of their new favorite shoegaze discoveries with me every day.
I hope you are not disappointed that I'm not able to share every band immediately here on Shoegaze Love but I'm doing my best to mention every band who touches my heart as soon as I can.
Before I start with the playlist I want to share some upcoming events with you: First of all the first Berlin Psych Fest will take place this weekend. Unfortunately some bands cancelled their shows (for proper reasons!). However there will still be some very cool bands participating.
Furthermore Record Store Day is happening on saturday! I'm very excited. A lot of cool special releases are already confirmed and I will have trouble not to spend all my money for it. Maybe you wanna tell me what releases you are looking forward.
So let's start with today's playist.

First band I want to introduce today is named Voluptuous Panic. The dream pop due consisting of Brian J. Bowe (musicjournalist) and Gretchen Devault (The Icicles) impresses with a dreamy sound a la Slowdive and great melodies. For only $2 you can buy their Single 'Fall away via bandcamp.
Another very awesome band that came to my ears in the last few days is Shroud Belial. Very oldschool voicing and lovely melodies. I fell in love head over heels. You better check out their EP Carelles. It's 'name your prize'! So I guess you know what to spend all your money for?!
I also don't want you to miss the new single of my good friends Fabels from Sydney. They create a great mixture of art rock with dreamy Shoegaze influences. It's experminetal music, so I guess it's not for everyone but do me the favour and just chck on them.
Next band is called Ephrata. They are from Seattle and bring you some very poppy dream pop tunes. Bombastic songwriting and soft voices help you to just fly away for a while. For me they sound like the sea: wide and free. Their EP 'I Scare No One' is also name your prize, so if it's possible for you leave them some bucks to support them.

I'm also very happy to introduce you to another very awesome band. They are called Savage Sister. They are based in Chicago and in love with flamingos (that's great, 'cause I adore flamingos as well!!). They call their music style 'Dreamwave' and I guess it describes the music very well. Quality synthie sounds mixed with experimental reverb vocals. Just awesome! AND the best of all: They released it all on cassette. Yeah!!
Next next next: La Ruinas Circulares from Argentinia. Oh my gosh! They are so lovely. Lo-fi indie pop at it's best. You immediately feel like dancing through the streets while the wind is playing with your hair. Nice cute little short pop songs with 60's attitude. Go for it!
Last but not least: Tideland from Sterling VA. Energetic post punk with grunge flavour influenced by bands like Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. So in love with this guys! And you can get their Album 'Lull' on Vinyl or digital via bandcamp.

So that's it for today. I hope you enjoyed all the music and found a new fav.
x Oyèmi

I ♥ Shoegaze || March I

Hello residents of Shoegaze Wonderland.
I hope you're as excited about this edition of I ♥ Shoegaze as I am 'cause there are great bands I want to introduce to you today. I'm also very happy to share a very special moment with you. My band Jaguwar will release their very first EP called "I" next week on march 15th. I feel like giving birth to a baby. (Well, actually I never carried out one so I guess I don't know how it feels. Whatever.)
I'm just happy and of course I will post about the EP on this blog.
But now I want to share some music of other amazing bands with you. I hope you'll find your new favorite one.

Dead Leaf Echo released their new EP 'true.deep.sleeper' last week and of course I fell in love head over heels. This band became one of my favs last year and what can I say. They are one of the best shoegaze bands at the time. They have a modern sound and very creative songwriting. They do have a feeling how to write a true pop song without just sounding random. You can hear the 80's and 90's indie music influences as well as a very own character they carry to the outside. You should definitely watch out for this band from Brooklyn/NYC.
Yoko Temple just got me with his very easy going way. All songs were written and recorded in a few days on a 4 track cassette recorder by Jevon James. Keeping it oldschool often brings out the best results. Everything matches very good. The simple electro drums, just a few guitar tracks and well done vocals. It's lo-fi. It's punk rock. I love it!
Youth in Bloom is a lovely band from Pennsylvania. They just released their first track 'Crescent Waves' and you better check them out 'cause they're not done yet. I'm very excited about the stuff coming up next. The first one is a very intense dream pop song with a lot of tension in it. Like them on facebook to stay tuned!
One of my current favorite songs is 'Pipe Dreams' by Contrast. The Band is from Melbourne and their sound is a mixture of shoegaze and new wave. Very cool drums and fuzzy guitar sounds. Amazing. I hope there is more coming very soon.
The next band is called Daisy Face and they are from Phoenix/AZ. They sound a lot like a 90's indie band with some dreamy influences. I guess you can call them born in the wrong time but in a good way. Their EP 'Dirt' is more then worth a listen. When you go for Bands like Sebadoh and Co you will find your new darling with this band.
Judy's Funeral from Poland is the next appetizer I want to show you. They are loud and they are Rock'n'Roll. You can hear the proximity to bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and A Place To Bury Strangers. Check them out!!!
Last but not least: Nova Drones with their EP 'Kiss of Bliss'. Very cool psychedelic rock songs with experimental sounds. The Los Angeles Duo hand painted a limited edition of 100 pieces of the CD. So grab yours now!

I hope you enjoyed todays edition. Don't stop sending me your music!

I ♥ Shoegaze (Soundcloud Edition n°2)

Hey Shoegaze People!
I'm very happy about this soundcloud edtion of the popular I ♥ Shoegaze
series.
You may ask yourselves why I'm so obsessed with bandcamp.. Well, first I think it looks better and second I'm a creature of habbit and I feel sorry for that. However today let's focus on great musical talent on Soundcloud.

First band today called City Lungs are a Helsinki-based duo working with synthesizer-sounds and fuzzy guitars. A very cool mix of dream pop and electronic elements. Lyrics and vocal melodies remind me of my teenage years when I was listening to Jimmy Eat World. Amazing.
Sighs are a London-based band who can definetely not hide where they are coming from. Very british sound and indie-pop attitude. They sound poppy. They sound young. I love it.
I already told you about Star Horse. They became Band of the Week last year and I love this cute band so much! They released an acustic version of their song Marybell. Very cool.
Next one is Vaadat Charigim, a noisy post punk band from Tel Aviv. You can listen to the whole album The World Is Well Lost on Soundcloud and you will fall in love with their 80s Indie-Rock influenced songs as fast as I did. I'm sure!
LE 1997 is the name of the project by a friend of mine. Noisy punk Rock influenced Indie-Rock from Mexico. Check it out!

I ♥ Shoegaze || February I

Hey Shoegaze Lovers.
It's february and there was no Shoegaze Love so far from my side so let's keep a look on what's going on in the noisy Shoegaze world.

One of my favorite bands called Teenage Daydreams released a new album in january. Totally in love with this dreamy but noisy shoegaze tunes. GUITARRRRRR WALLS all over the place and the whole album is for free but you totally should spend some money on it 'cause it's so worth it.
Next one is pretty special. Une Pipe is an irish art rock band with Shoegaze influences. I love the name of the intro of their 4-songs-EP called Noise is sort of political, it's kind of like a message of alienation. I like this point of view. I'm feeling you guys! So check them out.
Then there's this great awesome band Balms which totally got me with their new song All Right. They also released 2 other songs in december which are so great as well. So don't miss them!
I told you guys about Juleah earlier. This one-woman psychedelic project convinces me every time. The new EP which was released in december is staggering as always and you can download the whole piece for free. But as I always say: Keep in mind that you can do the artist a big favour when you leave some bucks.
An other great artist I want to introduce to you is Clarence Mayhew. He released his album Where the Ocean Meets the Shore one month ago and it's beautiful. Great songwriting and great sound influenced by Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. Love love love.

I ♥ Shoegaze || January III

Hey Lovers,

Here comes I ♥ Shoegaze n°3 this month. Wow. You guys are insane! When does all this increbible great shoegaze bands formed all over the world? Keep on. I'm in love again and I will tell you who's on my mind this time.

First ones are Has a Shadow from Mexico. I already mentioned them in this section and what should I say? True love never dies. With their dark gazy sound they mad it just into my broken heart. Yeah, I'm still very sad that my rat died last week. Weired how such a little being can mean so much. Miss you Alice...
Next band I wanna tell you about are called The Hedghogs. They are from Denmark and play some awesome 60s rock'n'roll with garage attitude. They are not actually shoegaze but I still like them. And it's my blog so I can write about who and what I want. Muahahaha. I like it. The release of their 'Make me wanna cry/Can't find myself 7'' ' will be feb 7th so check them out on fb to stay tuned.
Number 3 today: Ivy Hollivana. She's a singer/songwriter from California and I fell in love with her sweet little voice and awesome songs. They are dreamy and with some indie pop accents. Just lovely. And the album with the great name 'Poppy Field' is availiable for free at her bandcamp.
Shock of Daylight is a London based one-man project. He mixes electronical elements with fuzzy sounds and you can clearly hear his MBV and Slowdive influences in his songwriting. This is the new shit! I love it!
Last but not least: Fragments of God. They are doing kind of a more psychedelic rock with shoegaze influences and sometimes they are kind of progressive in their rhythm and songwriting. Really good stuff. Check out their self-titled EP via bandcamp.

If I had a world on my own, everything would be nonsense. III (playlist)

I ♥ Shoegaze || January II

Well,
yesterday I had some free time so I decided to clean up my mail box and had to fight with tons of unread messages of you guys. I'm so overwhelmed! I never believed there are so many people out there reading my blog. So thanks for your kind words.
I really try to get back to everyone of you but that's not possible, thanks to the fact that I have to work and also want to have some time left I can spend on my own music projects and my boyfriend.

It's also not possible to post all of your submitted music on Shoegaze Love and this is still a personal blog where I post bands and music I love. That doesn't mean, when I'm not writing about your band that you guys suck, I might just not be into it.
I hope you don't mind and keep on sending me music. I'm listening to all of it (when I find the time to do it!)
So let's start with some music:

First band I want to introduce to you is Costumes. The band from Austin, TX are mixing lofi indie rock with some dreamy shoegaze elements. Sweet stuff!

Vapour Night are some scottish band that convinced me with their great composition of dark ambient music with electronical and gazy influences. The vocals remind me of Slowdive and I fell in love with their song 'Night Flower'. Just amazing
Shalloboi are an ambient music duo based in chicago. It's a mix of drone and oldschool shoegaze a la MBV. Very cool and the retiring vocals match perfectly.
The next one I want to show you is not actually Shoegaze but Beauty Camp got me with their very catchy mix of different genres. It's like Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) meets Jónsi (Sigur Rós) in a reggae bar and some DJ is playing some displaced electro pop while a crappy jazz band is playing in the other corner. short: I never heard something like that before and I love it!
Sunken Seas impress with spacey modern shoegaze music. What can I say? It's just the way I like it!
SUPERRRRRRRRRCRUSH!!! Oh my gosh I completely fell in love with Supercrush! Besides Shoegaze Music I love oldschool Indie Rock so much and this band just went right into my heart with their catchy pop songs that remind me of Ash and Dinosaur Jr. So great! Check them out!!!!

So that's it so far. I don't want to overload you with all the great bands! Many of the ones I posted offer free download so check them out and maybe leave some bucks just to help them keeping on doing great music. I know it's hard.

Review: 'Distance' by Ceremony

Just a few days before christmas Ceremony brought their very own little present to Shoegaze town.

On december 17th the band from Fredericksburg, VA released their Album 'Distance' via Moon Sounds Records which also is a home for the surf-psych rockers The Vandelles.
When Ceremony released the single 'I Want to Kiss' in august last year they already got me with this massive fuzzy bass sound and I felt like back in the 80's with this poppy The Jesus and Mary Chain songwriting. But there was more to come.

With their new album they continue doing hat they do best: Writing heartbreaking love songs with fuzz fuzz and more fuzz, lovely voices and punk rock attitude.
With simple but awesome guitar lines they create this innocent athmosphere of some cute little teenage love.

The sound of 'Distance' doesn't remind of A Place by Bury Strangers by accident. The good friend and former bandmate from Skywave times Oliver Ackermann mastered the whole albumand gave it this rich noisy over the top sound which makes all the APTBS songs so intense.

So what's more to say?

I ♥ Shoegaze || January I

Hey everyone!
I wish you all a Happy New Year 2014. Hold on to your wishes an dreams and become the person you wanna be. So let's start with some Shoegaze Love left over from 2013. I did not forget about you I just needed some free time with my family and friend so I hope you don't mind I post you now.

At first, I wanna introduce Soft Shadows to you. In october 2013 they released their album "Reverb Is For Lovers" and beside the most awesome album title they bring great Shoegaze to the listeners. It's soft and it's hard at the same time. Just the way I like it. So don't miss them!!

Next one on the list are Wilson & Joy from UK. Their dream-pop is awesome and comes in a modern suit. My favorite song is "Lost".
In november 2013 gorgeous Louise Trehy (part of Swallow) released a track called "Automatic" under the name Strata Florida via Saint Marie Records. With a lot of tremolo effect it reminds me of the early 90s Shoegaze. The vocals are perfect. I'm dreaming.
Never heard of "Slackgazers"? Then you probably never heard about Chimes from New Jersey, USA. This 5 young people are creating a great modern Shoegaze with very dreamy female voices. And btw: Their cover art is beauteous. I love it!!!
Human Colonies is an italien Shoegaze Band who are in love with the great never dying stars on Shoegaze heaven such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Ride and are also into Old-School noisy Indie-Rock like Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr. Best mix if you ask me.
And there's another band which came along my way called Costado. I just couldn't find out if they had a facebook page so if anyone of you now where I can find them please write a comment below 'cause this band is amazing and I want to know what's going on. So check out their bandcamp. Great fuzzy guitars and a very good drum sound. Keep on.

Enjoy.
x
